Hidden behind the coverage of 57 other stories about accidents, politics and the Fourth of July, we actually spotted some TDI Truth on NPR the other day: Clean Diesel is growing in popularity. Titled Diesel Cars Attempt Comeback With Clean Diesel, the radio report outlines the growing interest people have in clean diesel as a fresh new choice versus typical gasoline-powered cars and hybrids. According to the report, which featured the VW Jetta TDI Clean Diesel, the engine’s plentiful torque gives the Jetta TDI a spirited punch to match its excellent fuel economy,* lower emissions and legendary dependability of clean diesel powerplants. The piece went so far as to suggest that today’s diesels are quiet and no longer belch black smoke like an old cigar-smoking bookie.
Okay, okay, the bookie thing is us. But the report did make a point that TDI Clean Diesel models – the Jetta, Jetta Sportwagen and Touareg 2 – are selling fast at your local VW dealer, a point not lost on car shoppers interested in buying something better.
